Karen Phelan Designs started in the first lockdown, when I finally had time to recycle all the resin and porcelain I had experimented with in college. I had such an excess of beautiful materials that I wanted to create something equally as beautiful: Therefore my Bespoke Jewellery Collection came to be.
My designs are bold and playful, because even though we are stuck inside most of the time, I believe that it is more important thatn ever to bring colour into your day to day life.
Each piece is handmade by crushing Porcelain and Resin and mixing it into coloured Jesmonite. Once set, they are hand sanded and sealed until the colours shine bright and glisten in the light. Each piece is unique, smooth to touch and suitable for any occasion.
Q What materials do you use for your Jewellery Collection?

I use Porcelain and Coloured Resins that I had leftover from my Final Year Project that I crush into Jesmonite. Jesmonite is an eco-resin that sets into moulds like a concrete or a resin. I crush the porcelain and resin and mix the two materials into the jesmonite before pouring them into each mould.
After they are set, I hand sand each piece and seal it using a Jesmonite sealer to keep them clean for longer.
I use stainless steel earring backs and brass coated hoops also!

Q How do I care for my earrings?

Each earring is sealed to keep moisture out, so if they get any stains on them, use a slightly damp cloth to gently clean them.
Jesmonite is quite a strong material, however be gentle when packing your earrings as they are still delicate if handled too roughly.

Q Do you do custom orders?

Yes! Custom orders can be done through Etsy or through a DM on my Instagram account. Just let me know what colour you would like!
Each piece is unique, as I never know what colours are going to come to the surface, so if you want the exact same as an older piece, there will be slight differences in the terrazzo colours.

Q Are the earrings quite heavy?

Not at all! Each earring is lightweight and thin so they can be worn all day without any hassle.

Q Is your packaging sustainable?

I try to use as little waste material in my packaging as possible! I pack jellies in each order which act as a cushioning and a treat for yourself.
